Erik Cole
The Hurricanes re-signed Cole to a three-year, $12 million contract on Wednesday. The 27-year-old left wing had 30 goals and 29 assists for 59 points last season, all career highs, despite missing the final 22 regular-season games with a fractured vertebra in his neck. "His size, speed and skill make him the ideal player for today's NHL, and he is one of the cornerstones of our team going forward," Hurricanes president and general manager Jim Rutherford said.

Analysis: Cole returned for Games 6 and 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to help Carolina win its first NHL championship. He has 78 goals and 90 assists in 274 career games spanning four seasons, all with the Hurricanes.
