Jed Ortmeyer
Ortmeyer has been diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and will be sidelined indefinitely. The New York Rangers forward is also scheduled to undergo more tests later this week the team said Monday. Ortmeyer has been inflicted with the illness, a sudden blockage of an artery in the lung, caused by one or more blood clots. "They believe it can be treated," said Mark Witkin, Ortmeyer's agent. "There has been no statement that his career is in jeopardy."

Analysis: Ortmeyer had five goals and two assists last season, playing in all but four of the 82 games. He has seven goals and six assists in 136 NHL games over three seasons. Ortmeyer wasn't drafted but signed with the Rangers in May 2003 following his four-year college career at Michigan.
