(Updated 8/18/2006) Analysis: Penner was a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets organization since signing as a free agent in 2001, but never appeared in an NHL game. The 23-year-old goaltender played in 40 games for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League in the 2005-06 season, posting a 20-12-1 record with a 3.25 goals-against average and one shutout.
