PRINCETON, N.J. (AP)-Courtney Banghart was hired as Princeton's women's basketball coach Thursday after helping Dartmouth win two Ivy League titles as a player and two more as an assistant.
Banghart replaces Richard Barron, who left to become an assistant at Baylor. She spent the past four seasons as an assistant to Chris Wielgus at Dartmouth, which won league titles in 2005 and 2006.
``I am very connected to the Ivy League and I believe in its values and what it stands for,'' Banghart said. ``Being able to continue building a women's basketball tradition at Princeton is very exciting.''
Dartmouth was 70-44 overall and 41-15 in the league in her four years as an assistant.
``Courtney's knowledge of the game and capacity for leadership are palpable strengths that made her an extraordinarily attractive candidate,'' Princeton athletic director Gary Walters said. ``She was a terrific player at Dartmouth and has been associated with winning programs all her life.''
Banghart led Dartmouth to Ivy League titles in her final two seasons, 1999 and 2000. She earned first-team All-Ivy honors both seasons.
