SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) -Olayinka Sanni scored a game-high 22 points to lead No. 16 West Virginia to an 80-47 win over Rhode Island in the championship game of the URI Invitational on Saturday.
Rhode Island (3-3) cut a 43-22 halftime deficit to 10 points with 10:02 to play with an 18-5 run to open the second half, but West Virginia (5-1) closed the game with a 30-7 run.
The Mountaineers shot 60 percent from the field, including 11-of-17 on 3-pointers. They also outrebounded Rhode Island 36-22 and scored 35 points off 25 turnovers.
Safi Mojidi scored 21 points to lead Rhode Island.
