SEATTLE (AP) -Washington freshman Mackenzie Argens will miss the remainder of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, coach Tia Jackson said Friday.

Washington is asking the Pac-10 Conference to grant a medical redshirt for Argens, which would allow her to retain four years of eligibility.

Argens appeared in four games this season, averaging 2.3 points and 2.8 rebounds. She injured her left knee Nov. 20 in practice and is expected to have surgery soon.

``It saddens me that Mackenzie has suffered an injury of this magnitude,'' Jackson said.

Argens is the second Husky to miss the season due to an injury. Senior Dominique Banks is redshirting after surgery following last season to repair stress fractures in her legs.
