FARGO, N.D. (AP) -Amy Ruley is stepping down as women's basketball coach at North Dakota State after leading the Bison to five NCAA Division II national titles and a move into Division I.
Ruley is leaving the job after 29 years to become an associate athletic director to work on fundraising. She compiled a 670-198 record with the Bison, who were scheduled to wind up the season Monday night against Centenary.
``It just feels like the right thing to step into a new direction,'' Ruley said at a news conference Monday afternoon. ``I'm so thrilled with the experiences I've had, and I look forward to the experiences ahead of me.''
The 52-year-old Ruley is ranked No. 11 in all-time victories for Division I coaches. She was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004.
Ruley won Division II titles in 1991 and four straight from 1993-96. The Bison went 32-0 in 1994-95, becoming the only team in Division II women's basketball history to go undefeated.
