DENTON, Texas (AP) -North Texas hired Clemson assistant Shanice Stephens as women's basketball coach Wednesday.
Stephens was associate head coach at Clemson for three seasons after spending nine years at Rice. At 36, she's the youngest head coach in the Sun Belt Conference.
As the recruiting coordinator at Clemson, she brought in Lele Hardy, who made the Atlantic Coast Conference all-freshman team in 2007 after leading the league with 3.27 steals per game.
Rice won at least 20 games and qualified for the postseason six times in the nine seasons Stephens was on staff.
Stephens played on two NCAA tournament teams at Oklahoma State in the 1990s after starting her college career at Austin Peay.
