COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Fourth-ranked Ohio State continues to play incredible defense.
Jessica Davenport scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Buckeyes to a 75-36 win over Western Illinois on Sunday in the Buckeye Classic championship.
The Buckeyes (3-0) led 38-13 after the first half, holding Western Illinois (3-1) to 25 percent shooting from the floor. Western Illinois made just five of 20 shots in the half.
Ohio State hasn't allowed an opponent to score 40 points this season.
``Ohio State is the No. 4 (team) in the country for a reason,'' Western Illinois coach Leslie Crane said. ``They are a great ball club. We play teams like them to learn and get better. We will be fine for the rest of our season in our division.''
Despite the early lead Sunday, Davenport said the Buckeyes offense was a bit erratic.
``But once we got into a rhythm, we played well,'' said Davenport, who was named the tournament's MVP.
Ohio State shot 50 percent for the game and scored 24 points off of 21 turnovers. Kim Wilburn had 12 points and Brandie Hoskins added 10 for the Buckeyes.
Western Illinois' problems continued in the second half, shooting just 8-of-23 - 30.2 percent.
Zane Teilane led Western Illinois with 12 points and six rebounds. Samantha Greer added six points and three rebounds.
