No. 23 Utah 65, Weber St. 38

12/7/2005 11:32 PM

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Shona Thorburn had 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead No. 23 Utah to a 65-38 victory over in-state rival Weber State on Wednesday night.

The Wildcats (3-3) kept it close early with 10 lead changes in the first half as Utah (5-1) was held to 27.3 percent shooting, including 1-of-8 from 3-point range.

But the Wildcats went cold late in the half, not getting a field goal for the last 4 minutes and the Utes went on a 7-1 run to end the first half and take a 25-19 lead.

Utah started the second half with a 25-2 run, going 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Weber State took only 13 shots in the second half, compared to 30 by Utah. The Utes had four turnovers in the half, while the Wildcats had 10.

Laura Porter led the Wildcats with 11 points and was 3-for-6 from 3-point range. The 38 points were a season low for Weber State.

Utah guard Julie Larsen scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half, all but one on 3-pointers. Kim Smith finished with 10 points after missing her first nine shots of the game.
