BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Third-ranked LSU showed the depth of its talent in a matchup with winless North Carolina A&T on Sunday.
Quianna Chaney, one of three reserves to score in double figures, had a career-high 19 points and the Lady Tigers beat the Aggies 99-35.
``Today was a strong indication of us getting better as a team,'' LSU coach Pokey Chatman said. ``Several key players got some rest and some reserves got some playing time before getting into the SEC.''
Chaney made seven field goals, including three 3-pointers, to join LSU reserves Kristen Morris (15 points) and Ashley Thomas (13) in double figures. Morris and Thomas also combined for 14 rebounds, and their point and rebound totals were career highs for both.
The Tigers' reserves scored 56 points.
``Being able to step up in case one of our starting five gets in foul trouble or gets hurt is our role,'' Chaney said. ``(The second unit) is pretty comfortable when we get in there.''
Seimone Augustus went 6-for-6 from the field for 13 points and RaShonta LeBlanc had 10 points and eight assists for LSU (11-0).
Shareka Glover led the Aggies (0-10) with 10 points.
North Carolina A&T made two baskets in the first 2:08 of the game, but then scored just two points during the next 14 minutes. LSU outscored the Aggies 32-2 over that stretch.
``LSU is very athletic,'' North Carolina A&T coach Patricia Cage-Bibbins said. ``No one comes in here and wins. They have a great team that is going to go a long way.''
The Tigers scored 21 straight points to take a 28-4 lead midway through the first half. LeBlanc made two free throws and a field goal and Augustus sank two baskets to start the run.
After Ahmad Williams scored for North Carolina A&T, the Tigers put together an 11-0 run.
A basket by Bianca Johnson nearly a minute later ended the Aggies' second scoring drought. The Tigers shot 81 percent from the floor in the first half and led 51-14 at the break.
LSU's starters played sparingly in the second half. Its reserves scored all but 10 of the points after halftime. Morris had 13 second-half points.
