MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -Teena Wickett and Teiosha George scored 21 points apiece Friday as Pepperdine upset No. 14 Rutgers 75-73 in overtime.
Rutgers has opened the season with two-straight losses. The Lady Knights lost to No. 9 Georgia in their opener Sunday.
Essence Carson made a 3-pointer at the end of overtime to give the apparent victory to Rutgers, but was called for traveling and the basket was waved off. Carson, who led Rutgers with 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists, also missed a shot at the end of regulation that would have given the Lady Knights the victory.
Wickett had 12 rebounds for the Waves (2-1), and Daphanie Kennedy had 18 points.
Rutgers led by as many as eight in the first half, but Pepperdine cut the lead to three, 31-28, at halftime. Pepperdine came back to tie it at 63 at the end of regulation, and led by as many as six in the extra period.
Epiphanny Prince scored 15 for Rutgers (0-2), and Kia Vaughn and Brittany Ray had 14 points apiece.
