NEW ORLEANS (AP) -It was a record-setting night for junior Sylvia Fowles, who led No. 10 LSU to a 59-39 win over Tulane on Sunday in a game marred by mistakes - from poor shooting to turnovers - on both sides.
Fowles scored 21 points and with her three blocks set a school record for career blocks.
LSU (5-0) had 15 turnovers, and coach Pokey Chatman said her team was lucky Tulane (2-1) didn't capitalize.
``I tell them all the time: 'I don't want to be lucky. I want to be solid,''' she said. ``I want to be good.''
LSU, which shot 35 percent from the field during the first half, picked up its game in the second, shooting 54 percent. Tulane, which also struggled in the first half but managed to keep the score close, did worse in the second, shooting just 15 percent.
Ashley Langford, who led Tulane with 10 points, said her team executed its game plan early on.
``I think in the second half, we got a little rattled by their runs,'' Langford said.
LSU led 23-22 going into halftime, after a layup by LSU's Quianna Chaney.
Fowles set the school record with her second block of the night and 179th of her career. She broke the mark held by Julie Gross since 1980.
Chaney finished with a career-high seven assists.
