SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -Caprice Smith scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead No. 17 DePaul University to a 78-57 win over Missouri State on Sunday.
DePaul (5-1) led 37-22 at halftime and opened the second half with a 12-3 run that included an 8-0 spurt on two free throws by Smith and 3-pointers by Allie Quigley and Missy Mitidiero to go up 49-25 with 15:52 left.
Missouri State (2-4) began the second half with 25 percent shooting (2-of-8) from the field. But the Bears went on a 12-4 run of their own and eventually cut the lead to 53-37, capped with a free throw by Breton Wyett with 12:35 left.
The Blue Demons responded with a 19-11 run, with Erin Carney scoring seven and Smith adding six to push DePaul ahead 72-48 with 5:36.
Missouri State, which led only once, early in the game, committed 20 turnovers that DePaul converted into 23 points. The Blue Demons also outrebounded Missouri State 40-37 and outscored the Bears 20-14 in the paint.
Quigley finished with 16 for DePaul, and Mitidiero added 13.
Roxanne Stiles led the Bears with 16 points. Tahnee Balerio added 14 points, Taylor Silas had 12 and Tiff Terwelp scored 10.
