TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Erica White didn't feel like celebrating after a strong offensive performance.
White had a career-high 22 points to help No. 6 LSU overcome an early 14-point deficit and beat South Florida 60-48 on Wednesday night.
``I didn't really feel too good,'' White said. ``The team didn't play well, so it's hard to celebrate an individual accomplishment when the team is playing so poorly. So, it's kind of bittersweet.''
Sylvia Fowles added 15 points and 16 rebounds for LSU (14-1), which has won nine straight.
``We know what we're capable of, and we know we can go up against any obstacle as long as we put our gut into it,'' Fowles said.
South Florida (11-3) got 22 points from Jessica Dickson. All three of the Bulls' losses this season have come against ranked teams.
``LSU is a very good team. We got beat tonight,'' South Florida coach Jose Fernandez said. ``All I told our kids, for us to start winning these games, we had to play every possession. We had to play for 40 minutes. I thought our kids competed, they battled and they fought hard.''
White hit a 3-pointer and scored on a driving lay-up to put LSU up 44-41 with 7:20 left. RaShonta LeBlanc scored six points and White added a 3-pointer that extended the LSU lead to 55-43 with 3 1/2 minutes to play.
Dickson had 17 points in the first half, helping South Florida take a 28-23 lead at the half. She had nine of her points during the opening eight minutes when South Florida went up 16-2.
``When we're up like that, we need to go ahead and shut the door,'' Dickson said. ``I think that's the difference between the ranked teams that we've played. Once they're up, they shut the door.''
LSU responded with a 19-4 run to go ahead 21-20 on Allison Hightower's basket with 2:45 remaining. South Florida, keyed by Dickson's six points, regained the five-point advantage at intermission.
``We try to never really let our body language change throughout the game,'' White said. ``We try to always be confident in what we're doing. That's a part of basketball. Teams go on runs, so you may get down. You can't let your body language reflect that because when you do, you're beaten already.''
