Delaware 77, No. 22 James Madison 67

2/22/2007 9:30 PM

NEWARK, Del. (AP) -Tyresa Smith scored 32 points to help Delaware upset No. 22 James Madison 77-67 Thursday night, ending the Dukes' 16-game winning streak.

It was Blue Hens' second victory over a Top 25 team this season. Delaware (23-4, 14-2 Colonial Athletic Association) beat then-No. 20 Kentucky 86-70 on Nov. 24.

Merideth Alexis led James Madison (24-3, 15-1) with 22 points and Taemra Young had 15.

Chrissy Fisher added 22 points for Delaware, which never trailed after the first six minutes and led by up to 14 points in the second half.

Leading 38-31 at halftime, the Hens opened the second half with a 9-3 run. Smith was fouled on a driving layup and sank the resulting free throw for a three-point play that pushed the advantage to 47-34 with 16:29 remaining in the game. The Hens never led by fewer than six after that.
