CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) -Kimberly Beck scored 20 points to surpass 1,000 for her career, Antelia Parrish added 17 points and eight rebounds, and No. 14 George Washington opened its season with a 79-59 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday night.

Sarah-Jo Lawrence scored 18 points and Whitney Allen had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Colonials, who improved to 7-0 against UMBC.

Carlee Cassidy led the Retrievers with 24 points, 18 in the second half. UMBC committed 24 turnovers, leading to 32 George Washington points.

Six of the Colonials nine 3-pointers came from Beck, who became the 23rd player in George Washington history to reach 1,000 points on a left-side 3-pointer with 3:37 remaining in the game.

UMBC raised a banner commemorating its 2006 America East tournament championship in a pregame ceremony, then sprinted to a 9-3 lead on Kristin Drabyn's 3-pointer.

But Beck's rainbow, right-side 3-pointer with 14:20 left in the first half ignited a 13-2 run for a 16-11 Colonials lead.

George Washington closed the first half with a 10-3 burst capped by consecutive 3s by Parrish for a 34-25 halftime cushion.

UMBC got within 44-37 on a three-point play by MacKenzie Butler with 15:46 remaining in the second half, but GW responded with an 11-3 run featuring five points by Beck.
