TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -Sylvia Fowles did a full game's worth of damage in 22 minutes.

Fowles had 24 points and 11 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play to lead No. 8 LSU to an easy 89-53 victory over Alabama on Thursday night.

Sylvia Fowles, an All-American, missed most of the second half of an easy win over Florida after tweaking her right knee and played only 22 minutes against Alabama. She nearly had a double-double by halftime with 10 points and nine rebounds. She hit 10 of 16 free throws.

``She's a pretty impressive specimen,'' Alabama coach Stephany Smith said. ``What a powerful force she is, and she's surrounded by a great group of talent as well.''

Leading 16-12 with 11:31 to go in the first half, the Lady Tigers (19-3, 8-0 Southeastern Conference) outscored Alabama (8-15, 1-7) 27-14 to take a 43-26 lead at the half. LSU then opened with a 31-9 run to take a commanding 40-point lead on two free throws by Marian Whitfield with 6:05 left in the game.

It was the tenth straight win for LSU - and the ninth straight victory over Alabama - and the seventh straight loss for Alabama.

Alabama rallied late, outscoring LSU 11-2, to cut the lead to 77-46 with 3:21 left to play. But 31 points was as close as the Tide got to a comeback.

In the first half, LSU was 16 of 20 from the line. Alabama hit both of its free-throw attempts.

``We tried to be very aggressive defensively,'' Smith said. ``We wanted to be more aggressive, but our intent was not to commit more fouls.''

Alabama scored first and kept the score relatively even early.

``The first seven or eight minutes, Alabama trapped us and that caused us some problems,'' LSU coach Van Chancellor said. ``After that we started to play LSU ball.''

Tierney Jenkins was the only Alabama player to break double figures. She had 12 points and nine rebounds. She said Fowles was a great challenge for the Tide.

``She's way bigger than anybody on our team,'' Jenkins said. ``We tried our best to guard her.''

It was the tenth straight win for LSU - and the ninth straight victory over Alabama - and the seventh straight loss for Alabama.

``They're a very powerful basketball team and we didn't have any answers to that,'' Smith said.
