EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -California held Oregon to its lowest scoring output in 30 years, and won in Eugene for the first time in 15 years.
Guard Alexis Gray-Lawson scored 16 points, center Devanei Hampton had 11 points and 11 rebounds and No. 9 California beat Oregon 53-34 on Saturday.
``This game boosts our confidence,'' Gray-Lawson said. ``It's good to know that we can play anywhere, but we can't be celebrating for too long.''
California last won at Oregon during the 1992-93 season, also the last time it swept the season series against Oregon.
Oregon's 34 points was its lowest scoring total since losing to Washington 51-34 in the 1977-78 season.
Oregon led 19-18 with 2:19 left in the first half, but California used a 5-0 run to take a 23-19 halftime lead. The Bears, off to their best Pac-10 start in program history, opened the second half on a 21-6 run to extend their lead to 44-25 with 8:15 remaining.
Gray-Lawson scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half, including a running jumper in the lane to cap the 21-6 run.
``We played much better in the second half and were able to get a lot of transition buckets early due to our blocking out and rebounding,'' California coach Joanne Boyle said. ``Defense and rebounding have been our emphasis all year.''
California (21-3, 12-1 Pacific-10 Conference), off to its best Pac-10 start ever, closed the first half on a 5-0 run to take a 23-19 lead.
The Bears opened the second half on a 21-6 run to extend their lead to 44-25.
``At halftime, that's what coach really focused on, us not getting on the boards enough,'' Hampton said. ``So after the half, we came out, got a body on somebody and pushed out the margin.''
Ashley Walker, who entered as Cal's leading scorer with 16.2 points per game, was held to four point but had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Micaela Cocks had seven points to lead Oregon (10-14, 4-9), which also got six points each from Nicole Canepa and Taylor Lilley.
California and Oregon shot a combined 14-of-52 in the first half. The Ducks shot 20 percent (11-for-55) against the Pac-10's leading scoring defense.
``Today, our offense was flat,'' guard Tamika Nurse said. ``We couldn't score. I don't know when you're going to win shooting 20 percent.''
It was Oregon's sixth loss in a row.
``Our team needs to have more energy,'' Oregon coach Bev Smith said. ``We need to find our identity that we had a month ago.''
