BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -Brittany Spears finished with 20 points and Jackie McFarland scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half, leading Colorado to a 73-68 victory over No. 15 Kansas State on Saturday night.
The Wildcats (18-8, 10-3 Big 12) have lost two in a row, and had their seven-game road winning streak halted. Kansas State also tumbled out of a tie with Baylor for the conference lead.
Colorado's Bianca Smith hit a 3-pointer with just under a minute remaining to give the Buffaloes a 69-66 lead.
After Shalee Lehning glided in for a layup with 44 seconds left, the Buffaloes worked the shot clock down and Whitney Houston launched a 3-pointer that bounded off the back of the rim.
However, McFarland grabbed the rebound, went back up and was fouled as she made the shot, completing a three-point play with 16.1 seconds left to seal Colorado's second straight win.
The Buffaloes (15-11, 4-9) had dropped nine of their last 11 before the win over the Wildcats. It was Colorado's third victory over a ranked team this season.
Smith finished with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. McFarland also had six assists and Aija Putnina grabbed eight rebounds.
Lehning had 19 points to lead Kansas State. Kimberly Dietz, who's from Boulder, added 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Ashley Sweat had 15.
Marlies Gipson, the Wildcats' second-leading scorer, fouled out with 5:49 remaining. She scored all six of her points in the first half.
