COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -Arizona State followed an uncharacteristic poor first half with 5 1/2 minutes of brilliant basketball, and that was enough to dismiss upset-minded Temple from the NCAA tournament.

After suffering twice as many losses in 2007-08 from a season ago, Arizona State coach Charli Turner Thorne was pleased with the seeding her team received in the NCAA tournament. She's probably even more excited that it doesn't have to open up against a ranked opponent.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Devanei Hampton scored a career-high 28 points, 17 in the first half, and No. 9 California beat Arizona State 64-51 Thursday night to take sole possession of first place in the Pac-10.
